Welcome to The Giving Exchange Web site (the "Site"), owned and operated by The Giving Exchange ("we," "us," or "our"). The Site is designed to serve as an information resource for parties interested in The Giving Exchange. The following terms of use ("Terms") govern your use of the Site. Federal tax law prohibits The Giving Exchange, a private operating foundation, from conducting or supporting, with limited exceptions, any lobbying activity (supporting or opposing specific legislation, including proposed or pending legislation or ballot measures) or electioneering (supporting or opposing any candidate for public office). These restrictions apply to events sponsored by The Giving Exchange as well as the content found within The Giving Exchange Site and its facebook page; including discussions, blogs, comments and any other fields or pages. Therefore, The Giving Exchange prohibits participants from lobbying in favor of or against specific legislation or expressing support for or opposition against any candidate for elected office at such events and on our Web properties.

Note to Users Outside of the United States. This Site is controlled by us from offices in the United States of America. If you choose to access this Site from locations outside the U.S. you do so at your own risk and you are responsible for compliance with any local laws. What to know before traveling to Africa

If you decide to come to Africa now or in the future here is a list and some links

 

Most orphanages, including the one we are going to asks to bring our own bedding
• Single bed sheets
• Pillow

 

Several vaccinations are highly recommended, they include:
• Yellow Fever
• Typhoid
• Hepatitis A
• Diphtheria
As well as Malaria pills
BUT check with your physician

 

Passport
• Of course you need a passport and the expiration date has to be at least 6 months or more away from time of departure

 

Visa

• A Visa is required to get into the country, Can be done before or at the airport in Africa
Visa ($50 one time entry, $100 yearly pass)

 

• Clothes & Supplies
• A wide brimmed hat to shade you from the sun and baseball hat
• Plenty of high factor sun cream
• Shorts and t-shirts or light trousers for the daytime. neutral tones like beige, khaki, stone and brown.
• Short and long sleeve clothes (the long sleeve should be light material and color)
• Long trousers and long sleeved shirt for the evening as protection from mosquitoes for the men and similar for the ladies
• Mosquito repellant for areas of bare skin (Mosiguard (natural) or Jungle Formula (containing DEET) are good products).
• Light jacket (check temperature before you depart)
• A pair of good walking boots and sandals
• African to US electrical adapter
• Camera
• A small first aid kit.
• A light weight waterproof jacket in case of a sudden shower
• Good pair of sun glasses as you are on the equator where the sun is very powerful.
• A pack of wet wipes.
• A small maglight or torch.(flashlight)
• Toilet roll
• A towel
• Hand sanitizer
• A mosquito net (optional)

 

Because you are traveling to Africa make sure that you tell:

• Credit card Company
     o Due to fraudulent charges from different countries, call your credit card company and tell them that you will be in ??? country in Africa for the dates you will be there

• Phone company
    o If you would like to use your cell phone while in Africa, call your cell phone company and tell them the dates you will be in Africa, what country and they will give you options for different calling plans there. So many texts and so many minutes of calling is $??

• Bank
     o Let your bank know you will be traveling if you plan to use your ATM card. Most ATM cards are accepted but this will alert your bank that the withdrawals/charges are fraudulent charges and are truly you

• Copy of your passport
     o Make a copy of your passport and keep a passport with you in a different part of your luggage or with you. Also email yourself a copy so that it is accessible anywhere/anytime and can be forwarded to different officials

 

• Call your health care company
     o Tell them that you will be traveling in Africa and ask them what hospital you should go to if you should need medical care while you are in Africa.
