Powering Potential: A Partnership with Unite to Light

At The Giving Exchange (TGE), we believe lasting impact isn’t achieved in isolation but is built through collaboration.

On July 10, 2025, TGE announced an exciting new partnership with Unite to Light (UTL), an organization deeply aligned with our mission to deliver sustainable solutions to underserved communities around the world.

Through our Powering Potential campaign, The Giving Exchange raised enough money for 45 solar-powered lights and 24 solar-powered chargers – in just two weeks!

From August 10-19, The Giving Exchange (TGE) returned to East Africa to visit our long-standing partners, monitor the progress of our ongoing projects, and deliver 45 solar-powered lights and 24 solar-powered chargers.

United Through Shared Values
At the heart of this initiative is a collective investment in human potential.

As members of 1% for the Planet, both The Giving Exchange and Unite to Light are committed to reinvesting into the planet and its people. This partnership demonstrates how much more we can accomplish when values align and missions merge.

Why it Matters

For communities without consistent electricity, the absence of reliable light can be a barrier to education, productivity, safety, and opportunity.

In Kasese, Uganda, we witnessed firsthand the impact of a simple light. As TGE volunteers distributed solar-powered lights to the inspiring women of the Rural Women Foundation for Community Development (RWOFCD), the entire crowd lit up.

“I don’t think they’d ever seen a product like that,” recalls Ming, TGE’s Executive Director. “But they quickly understood the impact it would have in their household.”

That impact is hard to overstate.

Our Trusted Partners on the Ground

Working with local partners like RWOFCD and Njoo Dada Trust ensures that every solution we implement is community-informed, culturally relevant, and rooted in local leadership. During this trip to Africa, solar-powered lights were delivered to the women supported by these two incredible TGE partners:

Rural Women Foundation for Community Development – Kasese Uganda

RWOFCD is a grassroots organization dedicated to creating lasting, innovative solutions to the challenges of poor health, extreme poverty, and social injustice. Their mission is rooted in sustainable development, with a strong focus on empowering women, children, youth, and orphans through skills training, sustainable agriculture, and health education.

In partnership with TGE, RWOFCD launched a transformative beekeeping project in 2014 that empowers 30 vulnerable teenage mothers through training, income generation, and food security. With the installation of 100 beehives, the project has produced over one ton of honey in three years, offering a reliable, self-sustaining source of income and resilience against crop failure.

Njoo Dada Trust – Dagoretti, Kenya

Njoo Dada Trust, meaning “Come, Sister” in Swahili, is a rescue center and Kenyan nonprofit located in Dagoretti, just outside Nairobi. Since 2014, Njoo Dada has supported pregnant teenagers and young mothers who face rejection, poverty, and lack of access to education. Njoo Dada’s mission is to provide a secure and stable environment where vulnerable young mothers can reclaim their dignity and build better lives. This organization offers a safe house, free services, and a pathway to healing, education, and long-term self-sufficiency.

In 2017, The Giving Exchange partnered with Njoo Dada Trust to expand opportunities for the girls at the safe house through vocational sewing programs and entrepreneurship training.

Solar-powered chargers were delivered to project managers for these TGE projects:
