Njoo Dada Trust: Creating Opportunities for Teenage Mothers

Founded in 2014 by Lunar Odawa, Njoo Dada is a safehouse that serves as a haven for teenage mothers facing challenging circumstances. The mission of Njoo Dada is to rescue these young mothers, provide them with psychosocial support, and equip them with essential skills and education. When the girls reintegrate into society, they are armed with confidence and self-sufficiency.

Njoo Dada Trust: A Model Partnership for Lasting Change:

Throughout the years, our partnership with Njoo Dada Trust has flourished, becoming a shining example of what can be achieved when trust, clear communication, and impactful results converge. This fruitful collaboration has allowed us to effectively channel our time and resources, resulting in even more impressive outcomes for young mothers and their children.

These are some of the projects we have collaborated on:

Stove Project: Fostering a Safe Cooking Environment (2018):

One of the early projects undertaken in collaboration with Njoo Dada Trust was the Stove Project. The initiative aimed to provide energy-efficient stoves to the safehouse, ensuring a safe and healthy cooking environment for the teenage mothers and their children. This project not only improved their living conditions but also promoted sustainability by reducing reliance on traditional cooking methods.

Trade School Sewing Project: Unlocking Skills and Economic Independence (2020):

Following the successful implementation of the Stove Project, we continued our partnership with Njoo Dada Trust to support the Trade School Sewing Project. By providing sewing machines and training in tailoring and dressmaking, we empowered the teenage mothers to acquire valuable vocational skills. These skills opened doors to employment opportunities or enabled them to establish their own small businesses, fostering economic independence and self-reliance.

Business Training: Equipping Teenage Mothers for Entrepreneurship (2021):

Recognizing the importance of entrepreneurship in creating sustainable futures, Njoo Dada Trust and The Giving Exchange organized an entrepreneurship training program for the teenage mothers and other beneficiaries. Through this initiative, they received comprehensive training in business management and had the opportunity to develop their entrepreneurial skills. The program culminated in a successful business pitch, empowering these young women to pursue their entrepreneurial dreams.

The Classroom Container: A Space for Learning and Growth (2022):

In our most recent endeavor, we donated a classroom container to Njoo Dada Trust. This dedicated learning space serves as a sewing classroom, where the teenage mothers and girls from the community can develop their sewing skills in a conducive environment. By providing a proper learning environment, we are nurturing their talents and enabling them to acquire valuable skills that will support their reintegration into society.

Honesty and Communication: The Foundation for Success

From the very beginning, a trusting relationship has been at the heart of our partnership. We have worked closely with Njoo Dada Trust, sharing a common vision and commitment to creating lasting change. By building this trust, we have been able to navigate challenges, collaborate on solutions, and forge a path towards a brighter future for the teenage mothers and their families.

Effective communication is crucial for any partnership to thrive. With Lunar and her team, we have maintained open lines of communication, ensuring that our objectives, strategies, and expectations are aligned. This clarity has fostered a strong synergy, enabling us to work together seamlessly, adapt to evolving needs, and deliver impactful projects that make a difference.

Njoo Dada Trust stands as a testament to the success that can be achieved through our partnership. Together, we have witnessed transformative results in the lives of teenage mothers, providing them with essential support, skills, and education.

We are immensely grateful to all those who have donated to The Giving Exchange in our collaborative journey with Njoo Dada.  Through projects like the Stove Project, Trade School Sewing Project, Business Training, and the Classroom Container, we continue to empower these young women, equipping them with the tools they need to thrive.

As we celebrate their successes and move forward, we remain dedicated to fostering strong relationships, maintaining clear communication, and achieving sustainable change. Through our continued commitment to nurturing hope and creating opportunities, we are shaping a brighter future for teenage mothers and their children.
