Solar-Powered Borehole Pump for Maasai Village

The Ilmarba Rescue Center in the Maasai Land is a home for young girls who have been rescued from forced marriage or genital mutation in the vast Matapato region of Kenya. The Rescue Center provides the girls with to food, shelter, and education and more recently with weekend guidance and counseling lessons. A $4600 donation from TGE now will provide the Rescue Center and Masai Village with a solar-powered pump to go into an existing borehole to improve the community’s water collection. The current pump is unsafe and inefficient and impacts school attendance and community safety. The TGE donation covers the cost of the pump, solar panels and installation.

This is the second project TGE has funded for the Ilmarba Rescue Center. In 2018, TGE funded the construction of a greenhouse in the community, which served to provide fresh vegetables to the young girls living in the home. The remaining vegetables were sold to generate income in order to cover the girl’s school fees and daily expenses.
