The Butakoola Village Association for Development (BUVAD) is a nonprofit organization working to contribute to a balanced ecosystem and to enhance the social-economic security and health of the people in their region.

TGE has been partnering with BUVAD for years to implement dozens of bottle-brick water tanks to their community, increasing access to fresh water, good hygiene, and keeping kids in school.

The rural communities supported by Butakoola Village live in poverty and are unable to sustain a nutritionally balanced diet.

Due to the many benefits of raising indigenous chickens, Butakoola Village decided to implement an Indigenous Chicken Coop program that will provide training in poultry farming and a sustainable income for the community to continue building water tanks in schools without depending on external funding.

This project aims to produce 300 chicks every 21 days, using a solar incubator. The excess of eggs will be sold to cover the insatiable demand for local chicken eggs in Kayunga and Uganda as a whole.

Profits will be used for the further expansion of:

• The rural safe water supply project

• The women empowerment project

• Educational support to vulnerable orphaned girls
