Sewing Machines for Trade School

Founded in 2014 by Lunar Odawa, Njoo Dada is a safehouse that serves as a haven for teenage mothers facing challenging circumstances. The mission of Njoo Dada is to rescue these young mothers, provide them with psychosocial support, and equip them with essential skills and education. When the girls reintegrate into society, they are armed with confidence and self-sufficiency.

In 2020 we purchased five sewing machines for the young mothers to practice their skills with a tailor who comes every week to teach them- a first step towards the trade school they want to launch later on. The team decided on (3) simple sewing machines and (2) commercial machines for the home of ten girls.

The cost is just $100 to provide one simple Singer sewing machine to a skills-training program for young mothers.

By providing sewing machines and training in tailoring and dressmaking, we empowered the teenage mothers to acquire valuable vocational skills. These skills opened doors to employment opportunities or enabled them to establish their own small businesses, fostering economic independence and self-reliance.

In 2021 we will be partnering with the Rose Foundation to provide the women with business training, giving them a better opportunity for financial empowerment and self-sustainability for themselves and their babies.
