While many people in the United States take education for granted, there are children in the world who must risk their lives just to get to school. When TGE learned how children in a remote Masai village had to walk miles and miles just to get to a classroom, facing dangers like wild animals and rugged terrain every step of the way, we felt compelled to act.

In the summer of 2019, we had the privilege of building a two-room classroom in a Masai village that would provide children easy, local access to an education. Now even the youngest children, who were too small and vulnerable to make the long trek to school, are able to attend, and girls who couldn’t afford to be gone at school all day because they were expected to help at home, are able to attend classes locally. At the school’s opening ceremony last August, the chief of the village spoke about the importance of education, specifically for girls facing a future of marital slavery—a culture he is working hard to change. He believes empowering young girls and boys through education will provide them with the independence and confidence they need to create a better life for themselves and their communities.
