Emergency Food Relief for Kiambu

When COVID-19 hit, we had to reassess our goals for the year, and decide how to best support the communities we work in in Kenya. From speaking with our friends and partners on the ground, it was quickly obvious that the most pressing issue was a sudden halt in the economy and an emergency deficit of basic needs - food and hygiene. We had no idea what kind of support we would receive for a project like this, because 1) it is not totally in line with our mission of implementing self-sustaining projects that lead to financial and personal empowerment and 2) of course the pandemic is having an affect on everyone's personal situation, including our donors. But our generous community came through and helped us provide over 600 bags containing rice, beans, western ndengu (mung beans), cooking fat, sugar, bar soap, sanitary pads, corn flour and wheat flour. Each bag went to a 4-6-member family, therefore helping feed over 2,400 people!

We wish to continue supporting these families in the months to come. Donate here.
